Operation International donated medical supplies worth sh700m ($571,647) to the hospital in Rakai Uganda. This money afforded them 3 oxygen concentrators, 3 anaesthetic machines as well as dental and laboratory equipment.

'US surgeons to carry out medical operations in Rakai district'

A team of nineteen medical workers from the United States of America (USA), on Friday arrived in Uganda where they are to spend ten days carrying out medical operations mainly on people of Rakai district in central Uganda. A team that was led by Dr. John O'shea from Maryland USA under their umbrella 'Operation International', was received by the queen mother of Kooki chiefdom Rebecca Tulituuka, Sir. Herbert Nsubuga, the minister of general duties, Eve Kakembo the health minister in Kooki, among other dignitaries. According to Lt. Dr. Margaret Kiyimba, the medical team was lobbied by Abaana Ba Africa (ABA) foundation, where she acts as a country director. READ MORE

A team of doctors, clinicians, nurses and aides in New York made its first international trip to Haiti in 1997 to give medical care to adults and children afflicted with disease and congenital disorders, living in inadequate conditions and lacking access to quality health care. Two decades later Operation International—formerly called International Surgical Mission Support—is still operational. standing inside a big, empty hospital in a remote region of Brazil in 1999 when a nurse summoned him to the emergency room. Lying on the floor was a pregnant 16-year-old, seizing and frothing at the mouth.

Several dozen Nepali men, women and children cling to the backs of family members, slowly and unsteadily making their way down the steep Himalayan mountains near Bhakunde Besi, Nepal’s poorest district, with a population of more than 600,000.Their eyes wrapped in surgical gauze, and their fingers intertwined with those carrying them at more than 3,000 feet above sea level, they were returning to their homes after receiving treatment for a variety of eye diseases—common ailments caused by the lack of oxygen at such high altitudes.
